New Tottenham defender Toby Alderweireld believes his side need a defensive midfielder like his former Southampton team-mates Morgan Schneiderlin and Victor Wanyama after throwing away a two-goal lead at home to Stoke, according to the London Evening Standard.
Spurs are without a win in their opening two Premier League games this season, and Alderweireld believes the defence need more protection from those in front of them.
He said: "You have to play better because if you don't play football anymore then they can put more pressure on you, get more guys in the box, and it's very difficult.
"At Southampton, Victor Wanyama and Morgan Schneiderlin put good pressure so they didn't have time to put the ball in the box - it makes it easier for defenders."
