On this day in 1995: Sharpe fires Man Utd to Victory

9 September 1995 - Everton 2-3 Manchester United

Lee Sharpe scored at the start of each half as Manchester United won their fourth successive match to go second in the Barclays Premier League table.
United's young team had not looked back since being beaten 3-1 at Aston Villa on the opening day. But they had to take the lead three times to finally subdue an Everton side who had already beaten them twice in the calendar year, once in the FA Cup final.
Sharpe struck after only three minutes when he turned in a David Beckham cross at the far post after a move involving Andy Cole and Paul Scholes.
Andrei Kanchelskis, who moved from United to Everton during the summer, was forced off after injuring his shoulder when he was challenged by Sharpe.
But Joe Royle's side managed to equalise in the 27th minute when Anders Limpar robbed Steve Bruce and raced through to beat goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel.
Beckham hit the Everton bar with a free-kick from 25 yards before Daniel Amokachi, for Everton, and Cole, for United, each had chances to put their side ahead.
United restored their lead in the 49th minute when Sharpe turned in a cross from Scholes.
Six minutes later Limpar became the second player to hit the bar from a free-kick but Dave Watson nodded down the rebound to Paul Rideout who slotted in the Toffees' second equaliser.
